About Lotus Sky — Handmade Glass Bead Bracelets from Nepal
Original glass bead bracelets. Hand crocheted in Nepal. Woman-founded since 2012.
Lotus Sky is an original glass bead bracelet brand born in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2012 — designed, crocheted, and brought to life entirely by women. Every bracelet begins as an original design created in our studio in the Boudhanath district, mapped bead by bead by our in-house design team before a single thread is picked up. From there it is hand crocheted using tubular beadwork crochet technique by our all-women artisan collective — Lhomi women, many of them college students funding their own education through their craft.
There are no middlemen here. No dealers. No resellers. Just original designs going directly from our crochet needles to your wrist.
Who We Are
Officially founded in 2012 by directors Sarah and Sangye, Lotus Sky started with a single mission — to transform fair trade with women's voices at the center. We are the only crocheted glass bead bracelet company in Nepal that is completely woman-powered from design through delivery. From our crocheters to our designers to our North American shipping team, every person behind your bracelet is a woman.
But we don't stop at fair wages. Lotus Sky is the founder of the New Fair Trade movement — built on the belief that artisans deserve not just a living wage, but a saveable one. A wage that puts money in the bank after all living expenses are paid. About half of our team are college students putting themselves through school with their Lotus Sky earnings. The other half are mothers ensuring their daughters receive the education they themselves were denied.
A Different Kind of Workplace
There is no factory behind Lotus Sky. No production floor, no assembly line, no clock to punch.
Our artisans receive their assignments at the studio and take their work home — crocheting on their own time, around their children, around their households, around their lives. This is not a compromise. It is intentional. We built Lotus Sky around the reality of women's lives, not the other way around.
In Nepal, as in much of the world, women carry the weight of home and family alongside everything else. A traditional workplace model forces a choice between income and family. Our model refuses that choice. Lotus Sky women earn a saveable wage on their own schedule, in their own space, without sacrificing their role at home or their children's need for a present mother.
This is what it actually means to be women-founded. Not just owned by a woman at the top — but built from the ground up around the lives of the women doing the work.
What Makes Lotus Sky Different
Every design you see on our website was created exclusively in our Kathmandu studio. We do not source from dealers. We do not resell other people's patterns. When you buy a Lotus Sky bracelet you are buying something that exists nowhere else — an original piece of wearable art that began as an idea in our studio and ended up on your wrist.
We use Preciosa and Toho glass beads in over 350 colorways, hand crocheted on natural cotton thread using tubular beadwork crochet technique. New designs drop every Friday. Restocks happen every week. Our collectors know — if you see something you love, do not wait.
Made for Every Wrist
