Nine years ago, Mother Earth shuddered in her sleep. Perhaps to her, it was a mere sigh- a sigh of tectonic plates releasing long-trapped pressure that set off a domino effect of powerful aftershocks for months and months to come. Hundreds of aftershocks, many of which triggered landslides, more avalanches, property devastation, and, of course, loss of life.

What was the movement of the earth, a natural and necessary thing, was, for the small country of Nepal, crouched beneath mountain range with the highest peaks on earth, the Himalayas, it was a violent, upending, disorienting and devastating sequence of virtual nonstop shaking, and terror.

For the small country of Nepal, nestled beneath the Himalayas, the highest mountain range on earth, and for the human and animals that humbly call the earth home, what was a natural and necessary movement of the earth was a violent, upending, disorienting, and devastating sequence of virtually nonstop shaking and terror.

It was all these things, yet it was also the forging of a new path for Lotus Sky- a focus on the bracelets we have become known for - and the crystallization of unbreakable bonds between the Lotus Sky women as they survived outside in tent camps for months.

It was the embodiment of the hope that perseveres in the human spirit despite tragedy and loss.

As do so many good things in life, our bracelet journey was somewhat accidental. We happened to have the supplies to make bracelets as the ground rolled beneath our feet and were suddenly surrounded by women interested in learning a new skill in order to occupy their hands and minds - not to mention supporting their families as the city continued to crumble.

This is an important story to share with our customers, new and old. And it is story we must continue to remind ourselves. Because what we have created and continue to create together, as a sisterhood, is unexpected, unlikely and something not to be taken for granted.

Over the course of the next few emails and through FB posts, we will share pieces of this story to honor the path we have walked and the strength that has brought us to this moment right now- ever grateful and ever in awe.

In honour of the 9th year since the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, we wanted to create a bracelet collection that was harmonious, creative, uplifting, unconventional and spirited. One that recognized the beadwork path we have woven with an eye of our needles aimed toward the future.
